Meet Rhode Island's Diverse Design Comunity
The State of Rhode Island has the leading resources and talent for Industrial Design. We are home to companies and organizations such as Hasbro, AT Cross, Numark, RISD and Brown University. As a result of our geography between Boston and New York, we harbor the strongest entrepreneurial community that is always changing, innovating and evolving. IDSA Rhode Island offers an arena where members can meet. At any given event, workshop or conference, we'll attract students, academics, employees and employers (to name a few). Have Fun While Learning
We're offering a fun set of unique events that aim to promote learning and expose the value of Industrial Design as a profession. These will take the form of workshops, lectures, and social events. Some of the topics we are focusing on include, "materials, methods, production and distribution", "clear communications and promotion", "sustainability" and "tools of an entrepreneur". If you'd like to suggest an event, let us know what you're thinking.
Build Confidence by Doing Something New
Our chapter is working to create an outreach program where IDSA Members volunteer to teach children in Rhode Island public schools about the value of design, sustainability and getting into a career that you're passionate about. We are also promoting connections between, Rhode Island School of Design and professional members to encourage a broad line-up of guest critics and expose professionals to the programs that are taking place within the academic sector. Connect With Sectors Ouside of I.D.
Talk with that entrepreneur, biologist, artist, computer programmer, or graphic designer that you've never met before. We are always looking for ways to cross-pollinate different disciplines, sectors and ideas. We've established relationships with organizations such as AIGA RI, AIA RI, Providence Geeks, the Steel Yard and the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation. Our goal is to elevate our design communities' level of knowledge, understanding and appreciation for all aspects of Industrial Design. We're a local chapter with a vested interest in supporting local business and organizations. Our group has been working with places such as the RISD Museum to get discounts on events such as Music Fridays.
