Seeking a Full-Time Junior Designer
This is an entry-level position. Custom Designs is a Point of Purchase manufacturer located in North Kingstown, RI. They design and manufacture retail display solutions for industries such as eye wear, foot wear, and consumer electronics. They are seeking an Industrial Designer interested in working in the Point of Purchase Design field. The ideal candidate should be a creative, talented, highly motivated individual, with a strong interest in POP and retail design. The candidate will work with a Creative Director to produce POP solutions in form of anything from sketches to digital presentation renderings. Other tasks will include: preparation of silk screen art work, sample graphics, and instruction sheets. Will be working in close contact with engineering and sample departments.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- BFA in industrial design or related design discipline
- Good computer skills, including working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
- Experience in 3D modeling and rendering (preferable Form Z)
- Good sketching and visual communication skills
- Experience in POP industry is a plus, but not required
- Excellent work ethic
- Solid understanding of manufacturing techniques and materials
- Good product photography skills is a plus

Seeking a Business Development Professional
The Business Innovation Factory is seeking a business development professional to assist with the development and execution of an outreach strategy in support of the BIF-4 Collaborative Innovation Summit. Candidate must successfully develop and execute against a plan to assist BIF in attracting target participants to the Summit and fulfilling our sponsorship objectives. Activity is set to begin in early April and the first phase of activity will conclude in early September. Follow-on engagement likely if initial phase of work is successful.
Now in its fourth year, the BIF Collaborative Innovation Summit has earned a national reputation for its unique storytelling approach to an event that has been described as more conversation than conference. Storytellers get 15 minutes on stage and must commit to sharing a personal story about their first-hand experience creating innovation and driving change. This means no canned presentations and no company infomercials.
Bruce Nussbaum of BusinessWeek and "Mavericks at Work" author Bill Taylor will co-host the Innovation Summit on October 15-16, 2008 in Providence, Rhode Island. Video transcripts from past summits can be found at businessinnovationfactory.com/innovationstorystudio.

Seeking a SuperIntern™ for the Summer
Ecolect (ecolect.net) was launched late last year as a web site for housing data about sustainable materials, user profiles, editorial content, and industry news in the realm of eco design. Today, we are adding materials at a growing rate and Ecolect has branched out to also include consulting services. We have been up many different opportunities to engage in diverse projects that engage our team and fuel our knowledge of sustainability. This summer, our studio in Providence will take an intern under our multi-tasking wing. We are seeking individuals who have an interest in learning more about sustainable materials, the creative industry, and design. Roles will vary depending on your particular skill set (design, research, writing for example). Exposure to the behind-the-scenes of a start-up in action are guaranteed. Tell us about yourself, and we'll let you know if there is a fit. The next session runs from June 9 - August 15, 2008 (application deadline May 16).
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Interest in sustainability
- Currently obtaining a degree in design or engineering
- Experience with research
- Knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator
- Good communication skills
- Knowledge of manufacturing is a plus
